Full Moon Hike and Snowshoeing in Durango, Colorado

Durango Full Moon Hike

Next week, Durango Nature Studies is offering two chances to get out in the wilderness on snowshoes: one snowshoe hike during the day and the other beneath a full moon.

Full Moon Snowshoe Hike Under the Wolf Moon

Date: Wednesday, January 15
Place: Haviland Lake/Chris Park
Instructor: Rob Else
Time: 4:30-6:30 p.m.
Cost: Free for members, $10 for non-members
Snowshoes: Bring your own or rent them from us at the hike for $3

DNS staff will lead hikers on a dusky exploration of natural history, nocturnal animals, local landforms, and cool moon facts and legends. Snow permitting, January’s full moon hike will be done on snowshoes (no prior experience necessary), and DNS will even provide hot chocolate. To register, email sally@durangonaturestudies.org or call 970-769-1800. You can also register online.

Speaking of snowshoeing, this month Durango Nature Studies is also offering the…

Winter Ecology Snowshoe Workshop

Date: Saturday, January 18
Place: Haviland Lake/Chris Park
Instructor:  John Duwe
Time: 10:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. (bring a lunch for after the workshop)
Cost:  Free for members, $10 for non-members
Snowshoes:  Bring your own or rent them from us at the hike for $3

Ever wondered how some animals can just walk on top of snow without falling through? Well, now you can find out — and try it for yourself — during a winter ecology snowshoe workshop. DNS naturalists will lead the snowshoe workshop and natural history hike. Naturalists will cover different natural history topics each month during the winter, so you will not only get out on a great snowshoe hike but also learn about how animals adapt in winter, snow science, tracking and more. To register, email sally@durangonaturestudies.org or call 970-769-1800. You can also register online.

While you’re enjoying Durango’s winter wonderland and all the winter activities Southwest Colorado has to offer, be sure to book your room with us at the Durango Quality Inn!
