  • The Strater Hotel is another prominent historic downtown landmark in Durango. The Strater was built in 1887 and is located just two blocks from the Narrow Gauge Railroad Station, situated among eclectic dining and shopping on Main Street downtown. The Old West themed hotel is home to the world’s largest collection of American Victorian Antiques and also features the literary landmark, Louis L’Amour Room.  The hotel offers three different dining choices, including the Diamond Belle Saloon, which features live music and is regarded as one of the most famous original ragtime piano bars in the Wild West,  The Office Spiritorium, which features a great happy hour from 4pm to 6pm, and fine dining at the award winning Mahogany Grille.
  • If you’re looking to enjoy the charm of Durango, but not looking to put a dent in your wallet, the Quality Inn, Durango features a friendly staff and great location. The Quality inn is located just 1 mile from Downtown and is walking distance to casual dining and the Durango Brewery. With lower rates than any of the other upscale lodging in Durango, all rooms feature a microwave and refrigerator for your left-over’s after a night of fine dining, and fresh breakfast that features real eggs and your choice of Danishes, waffles, sausage links, and breads. You can eat at the hotel and save your money for your choice of wine or spirits downtown. The hotel is walking distance from the shuttle to Durango Mountain resort, so you can throw your skis over your shoulder and walk right out the front door after a great hot breakfast. If you’re looking to play in the snow around town you can check out a snow tube from the front desk and the Durango trolley stop is right outside the lobby. The animas river sits directly behind the hotel. The hotel is pet-friendly as well, so if you’re are looking to bring your little buddy and start the day with a relaxing stroll along the Animas River walking trail or throw in a lure for some trout fishing, this location is ideal.
