
In addition to its Concert Series trains, the Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad in Durango, Colorado offers another great way to ride the rails this winter: Winter Brunch Trains.
The Durango train will steam alongside the Animas River up to Cascade Canyon with the back passenger cars reserved for brunch ticket holders. Passengers can enjoy a hot, catered brunch on board as the train chugs through the San Juan Mountains’ winter wonderland. Along with the delicious buffet items, passengers can enjoy live music and will receive both a complimentary glass of wine or sparking cider as well as a complimentary souvenir mug that will be refilled with beverages (of the nonalcoholic variety) all day!
The train will stop for 45 minutes at the Cascade Canyon wye, where passengers can disembark, walk along the river and get toasty by the fireplace in the pavilion.
Winter Brunch Trains are available select Saturdays in January, February and March:
- January 17 — Departs at 9:45 a.m.
- January 31 — Departs at 8 a.m. for Snowdown Hot Air Balloon Ascension
- February 28 — Departs at 9:45 a.m.
- March 7— Departs at 9:45 a.m.
For the Snowdown Hot Air Balloon Ascension on Jan. 31, the train will make a stop in the Animas Valley (weather permitting) to watch the balloons rise. All passengers will be able to get off the train and walk to the balloon field to take photos and chat with the pilots and crew.
