It’s sad that the Durango train’s beloved Polar Express choo’s its final choo for the season on Jan. 3. But fear not! There’s plenty more train where that came from. The Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad launches its Cascade Train Concert Series on Jan. 10.
During the Durango train concert series, which runs four Saturdays in January and February, a portion of the train is reserved for concert train passengers who will enjoy a catered hot brunch during the trip. The brunch buffet includes desserts and champagne as the train chugs through the Animas Valley alongside the Animas River to Cascade Canyon. There, passengers can disembark to stroll along the river and warm themselves by a fire before boarding for the return trip to Durango — or they can stay toasty and warm on the passenger car. Concert Train passengers also receive a free souvenir mug that comes with free refills of non-alcoholic beverages all day.
Back at the Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad Museum, they will enjoy wine tastings, a cash bar and a 90-minute live concert by a different band each day of the four-Saturday concert series:
- January 10 – Bar D Wranglers
- January 24 – Sugar Creek
- February 7 – Running Out of Road
- February 21 – Bar D Wranglers
Standard-class seating is available at the front of the train, where passengers can enjoy the Durango train ride without all the extra festivities.
