Take a walk through history — and enjoy an adult beverage or three — during the Historic Saloon Stroll on Friday, Nov. 21, in downtown Durango.

During the event, imbibers, er, uh, participants will have a chance to meet characters from Durango’s past, including Bessie Rivers at the Diamond Belle Saloon and “Metta the Faro Dealer” and “Curly the Bartender” at El Moro Spirits and Tavern.

The Diamond Belle is located in the stately Strater Hotel and is revered as one of the Wild West’s original ragtime piano bars, while the El Moro — originally the El Moro Saloon — was one of 21 saloons in Durango at the turn of the century.

Presentations about Durango’s wild (west) and crazy history will be given at 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. during the Historic Saloon Stroll. A portion of the bar sales at each location will benefit the Animas Museum.

If you have one too many during the Saloon Stroll, feel free to stroll on over to the Durango Quality Inn for the night!
